Responsibilities: This position will be a contract to hire. Our client
is only interested in candidates that truly seek permanent employment in
Birmingham, AL. Telecommuting is not an option. This person must be on
site in Birmingham, AL. Provides Database Administration for the Progress
Databases and SQL Databases and such other databases as may be required to
support the system on a UNIX/Windows 2000 platform. Provides support for
software application development and related projects. Administers database
server environments by sustaining performance, forecasting database and
hardware issues, and accomplishes database tuning and hardware maintenance.
Monitors and manages production, development, and test systems databases,
automates routine DBA tasks, and supports applications written by third
party vendors. Performs all related DBA functions including design,
implementation, and maintenance of databases, backup/recovery, performance
monitoring/tuning, configuration management, and security/auditing. Installs
and administers operating systems, database management systems, and related
software tools. Designs and monitories procedures and documentation for
solving problems or improving everyday routines. May be required to work
after hours to meet specific project or task objectives, or as requested by
the Programming Manager or Information Systems Department Manager. May work
under deadlines and may be responsible for on-call. Should always conduct
themselves in a professional manner and promote company policies.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business, Management
Information Systems, or comparable field of study or Technical training
equivalent. Typically has from 1-2 years experience with a professional
relational database system. Experience with UNIX (Solaris) and Windows 2000
Advance Server required. Experience in the Progress Database System and SQL
Server Database preferred.
