Progress Programmer, DBA, and Unix/Windows Admin, Virginia/Maryland/DC area, USA

Company: Allegro Consultants, Ltd.
Location: Washington DC Metro area, USA
Position: Progress programmer, DBA, and Unix/Windows system administrator

You will be providing administration, tuning and customizing for an
existing Progress application in a government facility. You will be
responsible for Unix system administration, Windows NT administration,
Progress database administration, and some Progress 4GL programming for
reporting.

Requirements:

You *MUST* have a current Top Secret (TS) clearance. This is an absolute
requirement. If you don't have a TS, please do not apply for this position.

You need one or more of the following skills:

Progress database administration experience with version 8.x
Progress 4GL programming experience
Unix system administration experience
Windows NT or 2000 system administration experience
TCP/IP networking experience

Preferred experience:

Degree in CS, MIS or BA is a plus, but not required

Details:

You will be the jack-of-all-trades for a secure facility in Northern
Virginia / Maryland / Washington DC area. The client is looking for a
single person to provide full time support of an existing Progress
application. This is a version 8.x GUI application with a Progress database
backend.

This position is a sensitive security position. You will be a full time,
long term contractor to Allegro Consultants.

We will provide intensive training for two weeks prior to taking this
position and you will have the full support of all 25 Allegro staff members
in each of the areas. This is a great opportunity to learn a lot about
these areas. A real resume builder.

Compensation:

Your hourly rate will be commensurate with experience. Contractor's pay
will be reported by IRS form 1099 and contractor is responsible for all taxes

Benefits:

As an independent contractor, Allegro offers no traditional benefits like
medical or dental insurance to its contractors. You are responsible for
providing these on your own.

Commitment:

We are looking for permanent, full time contractors willing to sign up for
at least 12 months. We prefer long-term relationships and we do not hire
just to fill specific positions. Once this contract ends, you will be moved
to another position within our client base.

You will be expected to provide at least 40 billable hours per week. The
immediate work is on-site in the metro DC area. Future work for any other
Allegro customers could be on-site anywhere in the Northern VA, Washington
DC and Maryland area. Travel outside the DC Metro area is uncommon.
Telecommuting for this position is not permitted due to the sensitive data.
Contractors must be highly motivated, self-disciplined and self-managed.
However, this means each contractor is basically their own boss and may
dictate their own work and vacation schedule as long as the
customer needs are satisfied.

About Allegro:

Allegro provides a knowledge and resource rich environment with staff at
many levels and areas of expertise sharing their knowledge. This direct
equates to an excellent learning environment and a terrific support network
for both our clients and our contractors. Allegro is committed to providing
our customers with the highest quality and complete customer satisfaction.
Because of our standards and our staff, we stand apart in our market and
have the best customer references. We are a Progress specific consulting
and contracting firm. Allegro was founded in 1993. We have long-term
customers throughout the Eastern United States. Our staff has presented at
Progress conferences throughout the world, and the company in a strong
growth cycle. We are, however, still small enough to sincerely care about
our staff as we do about our customers. We are actively involved in the
Progress community; we sponsor three Progress User Groups, and regularly
participate in Progress Alpha and Beta testing.

If you are committed to providing the best service, really care about the
customer, enjoy the responsibilities of self-management, and would like a
rewarding, flexible position, you should call or email now. We are ready
for phone interviews and serious candidates can speak directly to our
current contractors and customers for references.
