The Progress DataDirect Partner Summit connected the top minds in data connectivity across topics from NoSQL to ODBC 4.0. Here's what we learned from you.

The Progress DataDirect partner summit is an annual event that connects industry luminaries for data connectivity with our partners developing the tech that runs analytics. Our influential partners include seven of the top nine leaders in the ’15 Gartner Magic Quadrant for BI.

It was a great learning and networking event for attendees. And it’s really exciting that these discussions will ultimately determine which way the analytics industry will shift on accessing data, including the first multi-vendor summit on industry standards across ODBC 4.0 and OData 4.x.

Event Details for 2016:

Boston: 6/2 [Agenda]

Silicon Valley: 6/9 [Agenda]

Challenges for ISVs:

Explosion of data sources: Analytics companies are experiencing common challenges accessing the expanding landscape of disruptive data sources in the cloud and fit-for-purpose databases, such as NoSQL or Graph.

Hybrid data analytics environments: These disruptive systems may be deployed in a cloud or on-premises creating new permutations of connectivity support requirements.

Building non-standard interfaces for modern sources: The ODBC 4.0 announcement from the Microsoft Data Group was released just before the summit so we can start publicly discussing the first update in 15 years to better support modern data sources.

Guidance on specification and market updates for new standards: OData is the interoperable REST API that analytics vendors see as “ODBC or JDBC for the web”. The specification is still evolving for analytics and not yet ready for all types of workloads.

Who Let the Engineers Out?

We intentionally ask our R&D team to present since our partners appreciate transparency and access to technical expertise. Our engineers, as well as any presenter, will tell you the truth and lessons learned. This is part of our culture and operating principles, to work towards a successful partnership. Join us to hear the good, bad and ugly in data connectivity so that you can better plan roadmaps without any data access surprises.
