Disk devices in Windows are often enabled for write caching. It seems to me that no performance trick is worth the price of losing data. I was looking for a recommendation from progress about disabling the write caching behavior for any disk that hosts a progress database. But I cannot find it. Any pointers would be appreciated. There are other generic recommendations outside the context of OE, but I feel like progress should also be stating this formally as well: Taking it another step further, I'd really like to see a whitepaper about configuring storage for a database in a virtualized environment. Here is a kb that makes a vague reference to write caching... it seems like more elaboration would me helpful :
