As a PSA, you can replace this line MyDBName._file._desc = hdlTableHandle:BUFFER-FIELD("_desc"):BUFFER-VALUE With MyDBName._file._desc = hdlTableHandle::_desc See docs.progress.com/.../BUFFER-VALUE-method.html for details. It's been in the language since the 9's some time, so I'm sure there's no-one that can't take advantage of it
