Progress Support has come back with an answer. I have been logging into Telerik cloud using the address www.telerik.com/.../telerik . Using this address leads to the problem I have described. If I instead use the address https://platform.telerik.com/ then my login goes directly to the Telerik Platform. It's not the solution I expected, but it is a solution so all is now good.
