But, Stefan, is this a repeating requirement? If it is something you do once a month, does it really matter? If you do it for each record as it is created, is it really going to make any difference? Isn't the point being efficient at the things one has to do all the time? To be sure, there are special cases like the matrix algebra in transportation planning, but then we have a mechanism to calling out to an external package for such situations. And, even in your issue, isn't the the bulk of the time going to be spent reading all of the records of the table, regardless of what you do with it once read? And, is that actually going to be faster in another language?
