Folks, PSC /does/ use OpenEdge for a variety of its internal systems but not all. We did more in the early days, but building your own ERP system is a lot of work and requires a lot of people. Eventually PSC became a QAD customer and replaced some internal systems with MFG/PRO. Don’t know what they use now. Writing your own complete email system is also a lot of work. Not at all practical when there are commercial and open source systems that do this extremely well. Even running your own email system is a lot of work. That’s why a lot of companies use gmail. At one time, the Sam Adams brewery used Progress and wrote their own applications for accounting and beer tasing record keeping and such. Eventually they figured out that they should spend their time making beer, not software. The whole reason why packaged software is so popular is that it is too inefficient to make everything yourself. Do you do all your own car repairs?
