I'm asking for is a background or in-server monitoring process that'll check for and clean up performance issues on its own when the server has a sufficient number of spare cycles. This is spurred in part by being encountering conditions where an application has encountered an excessive read latency condition that resulted from a table having a large number of deletes in its history, and required an idxcompact to fix. I'd prefer for the db to catch and remedy conditions like this on its own.
