Progress and JDBC

Hi all I am working with a progress database within a java application and I need to be able to use a function that is provided by progress. In particular I need to use the cando function in a prepared statement. Would anyone possibly be able to give me an idea as to how might go about accomplishing that ?

I know that this is a progres forum but few people seem to have a decent amount of knowledge on progress.
