Printing Question

We converted from Symix 4.0 to Syteline 3.5 yesterday. For the most part things
went well, but I do have a couple of questions about printing.

1. When a check run is done, the preliminary report is run first then the
checks are printed. How do you send these two functions to different printers?

2. Is there a way for a users to always specify the printer for a particular
reports without having to "print setup" for each report that is output to
something other than the default printer?

Thanks!

We have SyteLine 4.00.02 running on NT, using Novell as our print server.
This is what we found. Symix says they are working on improving this -
maybe in V5? If anyone knows of a better way to handle this - I would be
happy to hear about it.

First, set up in SyteLine a default of User Name = * ; Process = * Printer
= PRINTER. That will send the reports to each user's default windows
printer, and takes care of MOST reports. If you want them to print
condensed; put the Start String for your printers.
- For HP printers it's ~027&k2S.
- For OkiData printers; to print 10CPI; Draft (not double strike); put
~018 as a start string.

For the exeptions:

If you have a NT Client you can enter the full path name as the printer
default. To see the printer name; Start; Settings; Printers; right click
on the printer; Properties; Ports. It should be \\SERVER\PRINTER. That's
what you would put in SyteLine as the printer default.

If you have a Windows 95/98 Client, your default PRINTER will be where the
reports go. The user can change the printer each time they print a report
- but this is a pain. If you want another default printer set up, you have
to "capture" a port.
- When you "Add Printer" ; check the button "Print MS-DOS files"
- Capture a printer port of LPT1; LPT2 and LPT3 (maybe more...)
- After completing the "Add Printer" wizard; right-click on the printer
and select Properties.
- Change the port to the full path name of LPT1:\\SERVER\PRINTER (it will
be listed)

This will ONLY work for the client you set up the printers on - you have to
re-do it for each client that prints on more than one printer.

I got this information from Symix support - so they may have a "how to"
document on it now, that may be better than my instructions.
