Hi PEGers,

Does make any sense -spin parameter on a ORACLE Dataserver?
Is there any special task to perform at the PROGRESS side in order to take
full advantage of a SMP AIX box when running ORACLE?

AIX 4.1
PROGRESS 8.2C
ORACLE 7.3

Thanks in advance,
Fabio Bissolotti

No.

Buy more memory. Start cutting your staff so you can afford a full time
Oracle DBA. Buy stock in hard drive manufacturers. Look at the Progress
patch web page for your version of Progress EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Fabio:

The -spin option has no effect on the Progress Oracle DataServer. Actually there are no Progress DB tuning options that apply to the DataServer. The only tuning options are the -Dsrv parameters and some of the client startup parameters like:
Memory for merging and sorting (example: TB 32 (sorting) & TM 32 (merging)
RAM for Progress Object - Example - mmax 2048
Also, you could take a look at what Oracle recommends for your hardware. If you want to tune you should take a look at the -Dsrv parms, your queries (4GL) and the Oracle DB.
