openedge management and URL monitoring

Trying to monitor a LAN website using Fathom 3.1a. THe URL is valid and can be retrieved using wget form the Unix box that Fathom is installed on, however each time the resource is polled I get " The network resource failed to respond. (9688)" as an alert from the monitor. I set up a couple of temporary monitors to external sites (google etc) and these all work fine. The only obvious differences I can see is that the website I'm trying to monitor is referenced without the www. (i.e. http://10. etc) and uses IP address not domain name, surely of no significance?

Any clues on getting round this?
