Answered ODBC connection alive time?

Hi

I'd like to ask a high level question regarding an ODBC connection to Progress 10.2B.

Using the standard ODBC drivers as shipped with Progress.

If I were to make an ODBC connection how long does it stay alive for?

Theoretically if I were to create an application that connected at 9AM, did a bit of work, then did nothing until 9PM - would the same connection still be alive?

Thanks in advance.

Chris.

The database does not have any built-in feature to close a connection, say, after a particular idle timeout. Honestly I am not 100% positive but I've never seen anything like that in the documentation for the driver - therefore I'll take it that it too does not have such a built-in feature.

Heavy Regard, RealHeavyDude.

Yea I couldn't find anything either - will take is that it remains open then.

Thanks

p.s. feel free to change to answered - I don;t see how to do this?

There is no way within Progress to control the TCP/IP timeout. This keepalive timeout can only be controlled by parameters within the TCP/IP layer. Changing the timeout value will affect all other processes relying on TCP/IP
