New Account Structure and Unit Codes

We are in the process of planning our conversion from Symix 4.0 to Syteline.
It has been suggested that we take the time to rethink our chart of accounts
and possibly eliminate many accounts by using the new feature in Syteline-
unit codes. Has anyone mapped existing accounts to a new account structure
using the unit codes effectively? While we understand the basic concept of
unit codes, we have little detailed information on how this works in the
system. Does anyone have a good plan for conversion and/or additional
information regarding unit codes in Syteline?

We converted from symix 2.7 to sl2f in dec96, I have some info on the
mapping of the accounts and codes.
We use unit code1 for departments and unit code 2 for product codes.
Currently if you have for example:
account and subaccounts as
12346 310 for dept 310 wip inv
12346 320 for dept 320 wip inv

On the new chart of account master we have mapped
account
12346 for wip inv
You will have multiple unitcode1's
310 for dept 310
320 for dept 320 etc.

This will decrease the number of accounts in the chart master,
but you have to make sure to set unit code accessibility flags.
I believe you have to redo the financial statements (we had to redo the
financial statements from scratch), also you
have to make sure historical data be updated with respective
unitcodes. During the conversion process the utility will allow you
to map the accounts-subaccount to account & unit codes.
Also if you are using product code on any of the unit codes you
might have to update the accounts and unit codes for each
product code. We had a symix employee guiding us on the conversion.

I hope this helps.

conversion takes care of updating all historical data according to the
mapping tables.
