Modeling Existing ABL Systems using UML

That's pretty awesome. Around when do you think this will be released? Also is there anything similar to that out there now for 4gl code?

Answering the second question first, ABL is just a rebranding of what used to be called 4GL so it isn't as if one would have a separate tool.

There have been some previous efforts at creating UML from ABL by PSC's consulting group, but these have been limited to the kind of information available from XREF, which has substantial limitations which CallGraph does not have. Also, we will be pulling information from multiple sources.

As to timing, the initial version of the profile is already published and one could start using it right now for hand created entries. We are very interested in people starting to work with the profile so that we can get feedback on completeness and correctness so that this can become a generally used standard. We roughly expect a working version covering the first three stages by fall.

Well you certainly got me interested. I did some stuff with Prodox in combination with XREF to generate technical documentation.
But this whole idea takes it a lot further. It sounds sounds really appealing to me. Nice one.

We're pretty excited too! If you look at the profile, you will see that there is a lot of information that we will be capturing in the model. I have come up with a couple additional items I will add soon and I am hoping to get input from various sources for other ideas. Our approach will allow merging from multiple sources to get the best possible selection for any given site.

Of course, the really interesting part will come with the transformations, but I think even the analysis potential is significant.
