Hi, there
Does anyone have experienced for implementation MFG/PRO eB2 under LINUX.
What i mean is, I Implement the MFG/PRO eB2 database in LINUX Server
and the file Server (programs) and CHR and GUI Client still running on WIN32
and file server (WIN32) will communicate with DB (LINUX) via TCP/IP Port.
How does the performance for those configuration for ?
Can you tell me what version of LINUX is suitable for MFG/PRO eB2 ?
Can anyone tell me the Quality Assurance if I Implemented MFG/PRO eB2 under LINUX ?

thank you for your reply.

I have implemented momentairily three versions of MFG under Linux.
MFGeB, MFGeB2 and MFGeB2.1. You have to be aware of the following restrictions:

- The Progress version you can use must be 9.1D ( patch level 9) or 9.1E. ( I have not tested the installation under progress 10!! ). Check always the release Notes on Progress Website for newest releases and possible errors.
- This Progress version can only be used Certified with RedHat Enterprise servers 3.0 AS, ES & WS editions. ( Look this up on the Progress website )
- Because of a change in errors procedure in the kernel it is not possible to run Progress with kernels 2.6.X. Redhat SE3 uses still 2.4.x.

When you have database smaller than 2 gb you must make use of "old" versions of RedHat 7 & 8. ( no longer certified but good enough for testing)

Other certified Linux versions supported are ;
* Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 2.1
* SuSe Enterprise Server 8
* Turbo Linux Server 8

The performance depends on the fact which user interface you want to use. If you use CHUI and GUI you probably won't notice any changes. I have noticed only increase of speed! The connection of the databases is the same as running the database servers on WIN32 machines. ( combination of -H -T -S parameters).

Problems can occur when you want to connect to Oracle database. This is only supported under Progress 10 ( Openedge).

What do you mean with Quality Assurance??
If you mean the stability of the technical surrounding. This is as strong as you want to invest in the hardware. I am running is momentairily with customers on a "normal" none tweaked desktop and the performance for 20 users is very good. The speed of the network is also very important.
If you want to run combinations of MRP-runs and Financial period reports simultaniously, the responds is related to your capacity of the disks and backbone.

I hope this will help you little bit.
