Hi there, I am currently on a project which involves connecting a Lotus Notes server with a Progress database. Progress is new to me so I need a little help. First of all i must say that I am excited to work with Progress as its one of the leading database products available, or so I have heard.
Unfortunately I have yet to find out which version of Progress I am working with (yes i am still at the beginning of the project) most likely it's version 9.1B. I have heard that when you buy Progress you also have access to the client and ODBC software necessary to connect to database based systems.
The setup:
The application which has to access data on the Progress system is IBM Lotus Notes 6.5. The Progress system is located on the same internal network. Both systems run on windows OS.
Goal:
Establishing a situation where the Lotus Notes application can access data as a local data source
Idea's:
First of all I would like to make views on the existing data on Progress. These views would make sub selection of what I need (this has to do with security issues). Second I would like to establish a connection from the IBM Notes application to the Progress system, thereby being able to access the views
The things I need (or at least I think I need) to know:
How do I make views?
Do I have to make a user account?
Do I have to install the client software on the Notes machine?
Do I have to install the ODBC on the server or client (meaning the Progress or Notes machine)
Could anyone help me with tips or/and tricks?
Thx in advance, Ian Smith
