JDBC Progress connection not stable

I'm trying to connect to Progress DB (9.1d) using jdbc driver comes with Progress 9.1d.

1. I can connect... but some times it is fail...
Some times connection is stuck. Then can't connect using JDBC or ODBC. If DB restart then again able to connect.

2. is there any jdbc driver instead of jdbc driver comes with Progress 9.1d. Or any latest version of that driver.

What servicepack level do you have?
Is the message you get:
"Exceeding permissible number of connections"?
Are you using a secondary SQL broker?
