I have witnessed similar behavior on AIX before. It turned out to be a global pause from the AIX side when errors were detected with the adapters/disks. We could map the events to the errors in the system logs. Nothing on the Progress side knew that they were waiting on disk or memory.... something lower at the kernel level was just not giving out the time slices. What exact errors did you see with the disks and what is your OS and disk configuration?
