The problem with the iterator pattern is recognized by others also, solutions proposed are with generic programming in java ( homepages.ecs.vuw.ac.nz/.../thesis.pdf). web.cse.ohio-state.edu/.../02HPS.pdf (problem named, I have not looked at solutions).
