Product management is an important role in any development shop and it is a valuable skill for a developer to acquire the ability to think like a product manager, if only because it can make it more likely that the things one wants will be scheduled for development. It is critical when dealing with PSC because the product managers, rightfully so, are the gatekeepers. This is not to say that there aren't stupid product managers in the world, but we are blessed with some very good ones at PSC.
