Hi ,

we have about 5000 items that are not used any more. Can we delete these items ? What are the condions and the consequences for an item to be deleted ?

thanks,

Francis

You can delete the items using 1.4.1 and pressing F5 or Ctrl-D. The item
must not be in use in any open purchase order, sales order, structure, et
cetera. I would recommend changing the item status instead of deleting the
items. Once, somebody started to delete obsolete items, and historical
reports couldn't find the item's description and produced errors.

The fact that you can delete an item does not mean you have not used it, and
you might need to know what it was later on. Being unable to tell what the
item was is the consequence of deleting items.

Hi Francis and peggers,
I would like to add that once you have decided to delete the items, instead
of changing the status like our colleague Armando has suggested, you may
find it easier to do a mass delete by using a CIM run based on [36.25.10]
Item Master Delete (ppptmt05.p). This procedure was specially written for
CIM delete runs, since a CIM based on [1.4.1] Item Master Maintenance
doesn't let do the F5 (delete) function.

Hope this helps,
