Database roll over

Is it possible to start our application with 2 databases connected so that in the event of our primary database failing, the system can automatically roll-over to a backup database?

Using Progress Replication, and a duplicated OS-system, you can create a system, that flips over automatically.

We have a customer with a system of two HP-9000 UNIX servers one is master the other is slave. In case one is failing, the other will take over.

Thanks - little more information please?

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, I am new to Progress and have been tasked with setting this system up. I have been doing lots of research and reading on Progress, but have not come across Progress Replication information. We are also running duplicate HP/UX 9000 boxes and are planning one as a master and one as a backup. Can you help to point me in the right direction? Thanks again.

I think what you're looking for is "Log based Site replication".

Using After-Image (Transaction) files, Progress can replicate one database into another. This can be done at once, every hour or whatever you requirements are.

Se chapter 18 in the System Administration Guide for more info.

Mike:)
