Cannot find lock (.lk) file

Hi there,

When restoring a backup onto a test server we recieve the following error whilst trying to start the databases through ProControl:

dbname Error: Cannot Find Lock (.lk) file See Event Viewer

Our first thoughts were that the databases were still active when the backup was performed but that is not the case as the backup kicked in around 1 hour after the databases were stopped. At present we are on Progress 9.1D and we use Veritas to backup our databases despite my pleas to use ProBackup. Can anyone suggest what this could be or point me in the right direction?

If you are using procontrol and you are on windows NT and Progress 8 or 9 then it could be the event viewer is full -->

solution:
Clear Event log files

Start-->Programs-->Administrative Tools-->Event Viewer

If you are using procontrol then more things could be wrong, look in the KB for more articles.

Posible problems with procontrol:
wrong -H parameter
Moved database to other location
Special chracter in servicename

Hi. I would reboot your server and try again...I have found this fixed the cannot find .lk error. Also, what does the Event Viewer say about the error? What changed around the time you were getting the error? Would any paths have changed? Ann.
