Automatic Phone Call from unix based progress application

I have to find a solution for automatic phone call service from unix based progress application.

What Phone System do you have?

I was testing Asterisk (OpenSource telephone system), it has an "Socket API" and I've managed to get OpenEdge get an handset extension ring and have it automatically dial a telephone number from a Database.
