Hi All,
after more than a year of inactivity, a new ChWP
release is out, this time on sourceforge, together
with brand-new homepage, and also a running demo.
If you haven't yet heard of ChWP, here is a short FAQ:
* What is it?
ChWP is YAFWSR, or Yet Another Free WebSpeed Replacement.
* Is it free?
Yes. ChWP is released under Lesser GPL.
* Is it a complete WebSpeed replacement?
No. It hasn't such an ambition. In webspeed-speak it
can be described as a CGI-wrapper. But there is no
nifty graphical development environment like in WebSpeed.
* Will I be programming in PROGRESS 4gl?
Yes
* What are the differences between ChWP and other free
WebSpeed replacements, like Ganimede, or Blue Diamond ?
Well, ChWP can be compared to Ganimede, as it uses also
a `broker' so every web hit doesn't mean also a brand
new PROGRESS session startup (like in Blue Diamond).
The main difference between Ganimede and ChWP is, that
the broker in ChWP is written in C, so you can run ChWP
even under PROGRESS version 8 (or 8.2, to be precise).
OTOH ChWP hasn't achieveded such level of WebSpeed
compatibility, as both Ganimede and Blue Diamond did.
So if you are already comfortable with WebSpeed 4GL
programming standards, ChWP probably isn't for you.
* Where can I see/download it?
http://chwp.sourceforge.net
* Is it stable?
Yes.
Share and enjoy!
