Currently it's not possible to call workflow actions and triggers via the Rest Api. It is possible to work around the trigger problem (explained below). Because a workaround is possible it's also possible to simulate workflow actions. However, this is a workaround, I would really like to see trigger and workflow action calls added to the Api. Working around the trigger problem is possible in the following way: This is done by creating a new object and hooking a trigger to it that will run after creation. This trigger will call other triggers depending on the information entered for the new record. You can configure the triggers in such a way that they're able to simulate the workflow actions.
