Not really. As long as its in a separate directory and you give the Name Server and Admin Server different ports you will be right. I run 9.1C, 9.1D, 9.1E, 10.0B01 and 10.0B02 all on the same box without any issues

Hmm - replication triggers fire in order where as normal DB triggers don't always.
EG
create cust1
create cust2
A standard write trigger "may" show cust2 first.
Replication triggers are typically used to create a disaster (DR) copy of the master database.
I don't believe here is a...
No - I disagree - thats adding a "read" check to every write to the database - way too much overhead. you can use 2 sequences together. I think we worked it out it would take you hundreds of years to run out at about 60-100 creates per second.
If you want to never see it in the code you can add it to the create trigger on the database table - I think the example Sports database does this for the customer table.
You can use the structure V9 file but it may be worth creating some areas for specific tables & indexes that are of high hit rate. If of course you only have one disk and controller then maybe isn't necessary BUT I did see something in the 2003 Progress exchange that pointed towards being able...
Progress itself has some really good CBT training (but its on V9 not V7). The best place to start is the CHUI tutorial manual - takes a bout 3 days to slowly go through but it will give you a good sound basis.

Win2003 vs Unix
both have good and bad points. 2003 appears to be faster than 2000 but is still quite new. I always find that the UNIX disk I/O system is more flexible than Windows although this is rapidly changing. A nice 2 or 4 way dell box running Linux will walk all over a Sparc box for...
Never had any real issues on Linux. Its always worked well. The only thing to watch is that usually each thread shows up as its own process (e.g. when using "ps") - especially with Java. So it can be a little confusing at first when trying to track down what threads are doing what.

Just an idea I came up with ad midnight while bottle feeding my daughter. Comments?

I've just finished all the whitepapers on the new V10 ProDataSet and I thought that it would be really nice if you could use that as an interface to Oracle or SQL Server etc...
You could also use the WebServices tool kip with SOAP messages or even SonicMQ / SonicESB. The proxy stuff definately works with VB6 - no idea about the .NET version though.
