    Spam

Yes it does appear to be working pretty well. We just had a spammer that had registered previously post, and it was automatically caught as spam and put into the moderation queue.

    Spam

Yes I was shocked to see the number of spam posters. It will block a registration based on a database of spammers at stopforumspam.com, based on known IP addresses, email addresses and user names used by spammers. It could keep a real user from registering, but that probably won't be a major...

    Spam

I installed some anti-spam countermeasures that should put anything "spammy" looking into a moderation queue, so the users here won't have to see it. This should help out greatly with the amount of spam.

    Spam-O-Matic?

I installed Spam-o-matic, I think this will work out very well to put "spammy" looking posts into a moderation queue so the users here will never see them. I also upgraded vBulletin to the 4.1.3PL1 version. Hopefully this should work pretty well at cutting down the amount of spam here.

    email notification

Yes it was an issue with sendmail, which has been corrected. Sorry about all of the old emails that came through.

    Spam

Yes the spam has gotten to be pretty constant. I've added a few controls which will hopefully slow the spam down enough that it becomes too cumbersome for it to be worth the effort.

    Site Problems

Just a small hiccup from the server move. All should be back to normal now. Thanks!

    Any idea about Vertext

They develop and sell tax software. Here is their website: http://www.vertexinc.com/ A friend of mine works for them in their main office in Berwyn.

    PRivate Messages

Tom, I increased the PM quotas for everyone. I also noticed that you and a few others were not marked as sponsors, so I corrected this issue as well. Thanks! Chris

    Still missing picture and signature

Sorry for the delay, these issues are all fixed now. I had profile pictures and signatures enabled only for sponsors, but changed this so that all registered members can use these features. I also fixed the avatar page so that you will see about 50 per page, instead of just 1.

    Google ads

The Google Ads just show up, I don't have (much) control over them, other then being able to block certain ones if I wanted to. Google has an index of all ProgressTalk pages and serves up ads on each page based on the keywords that it finds on the page. So on a thread discussing Microsoft...

    Google ads

The FireFox issues have been resolved... this was actually a vBulletin bug.

    Layout change?

This has been fixed now. It turned out to be a bug in vBulletin, but I found a code fix for it that seems to be working until the next official release comes out.

    Layout change?

    Search should be working now.

    Layout change?

I'm still working on some of the issues. I've noticed the '\' in the URL when using FireFox as well.

    Layout change?

Hi Casper, Thanks! I agree that the other colors were too difficult to see and the icons not clear enough before. I also replaced the ProgressTalk logo (although it might be time for a new one soon, I mean it still says 4GL instead of ABL!). I'll also work on getting some new color themes...

Free web-based email now available: Get yourname@progresstalk.com Today!

Yes, since then I have implemented RBL and reverse DNS, which has made a major dent in spam and bandwidth use. But Thomas is correct, most people are happy with a gmail, hotmail or yahoo account, so there isn't much point in providing a service like this anymore.

Even if you can fight off and block the spam, you are still using bandwidth (which I get charged for) in order to figure out if you should accept or reject the mail to begin with.

Sorry but I had to remove this feature because the server was getting overwhelmed by the amount of spam these email addresses collected. I might consider adding this back at some point, but probably only to sponsors.
