Here's a section of the script that we use to backup our database, it creates a single file called bkuppackage
# We now check to see if the database is running
# if it's up we do an "online" backup
# if it's down we do an "offline" backup.
cd /pack
proutil /pack/package -C holder 1>/dev/null...
We've RedHat ES 3 running on HP DL-380's with twin Xeon processors and a full compliment of hard disks (4x72Gb 2x36Gb) and have linux load levels of around 0.2 / 0.3 with 40 concurrent users on an 8Gb database.
