    Comment A Progress review

tamhas, being a newbie here (and to Progress) I concur with the section about this site, sometimes you get great answer (thank all) sometimes you get weak answers (sort of in the right direction) sometime you get a non-answer ("it isn't a SQL database") and on the rare occasion no answer at...

Is there a simple way to GRANT

It there a simple way (though ODBC and SQL) to grant select to a specific user? There are 147 tables and I do not want to GRANT SELECT ON table1 TO 'mrme' a hundred and 127 time ( I will have to revoke access to about 20 HR tables) I can script something but it seem like a wast for only one...

dbtool error while loading shared libraries

if the other doesn't work do a find for the lib and add the path to the path statement.

dbtool error while loading shared libraries

close, you're specifying the exact location of your dbtool to run it so: /app/newver/rd/dlc/bin/dbtool /app/newver/db/nvernxt should get the app started and from there the app should know where the libs are (assuming it has ran before). you could also cd into /app/newver/rd/dlc/bin/ and have...

dbtool error while loading shared libraries

Just a side note, it helps if you include the information on progress version, O/S etc ... (being lazy I put my primary system information in my signature.)

dbtool error while loading shared libraries

I would add: /your/dcl/path/bin/dbtool /your/env/path/nvemst (your paths to each)

dbtool error while loading shared libraries

you can specify most calls with explicit paths. I have several environments also and I can make thees calls to any of them. If you show us your call it might help.

    Creating Database Updating scripts

It helps if you have the dot P but it can be ran from the dot R load_df.? the dot P will let you look at the code. If you have done progress scripting before sorry, but for those of us that went though this for the first time a little more information will help. you have to have a wrapper...

    SQL broker startup

Thanks Rob, just a follow up ... so should I use 7? :-) There was a warning that 5 was the max if you have limited resources, the system has: 2.8 ghz CPUs, 2 gb of ram 2TB raid 6 disks, basically progress database is the only load on the system. When I plugged in the max (all users) into...

    Port number.

You didn't say if the DB service was on UNIX/Linux or windows. If it is on U/L you may run: ps ax | grep -e '\-S ' if you are not logged in as the same user as the database add the -u XXXXX to the ps ax (ps ax -u XXXXX ) where XXXXX is the database user ID, in many cases this is root.

I found a spreadsheet on oehive: with the title: "Secondary broker parameter spreadsheet" @ http://www.oehive.org/files/DBparamsOEHIVE.xls this tells me the only three parameters I need to start my secondary broker are: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ -m3 -ServerType...
