UNIX Systems Administrator

Our client, headquartered in Cleveland, is an established $50M privately
held manufacturer of industrial components and a leading supplier in
their industry. This newly created role reflects the expansion of its IT
department with the addition of a QAD MFG/PRO ERP system.

Job Summary: Responsibilities include the administration of the Progress
database on the IBM AIX platform. This entails the use and understanding
of the companies hardware/software by the use of system tools/statistics,
as well as some programming experience in Progress v8 or higher. Reports
to the Information Systems Manager.

Primary Responsibilities: Lead responsibilities for maintaining/optimizing
all Progress databases. These specifically include the following:

Understanding the UNIX/Progress architecture of MFG/PRO and all
supporting packages for troubleshooting and performance tuning.
These include, but are not limited to, Timeware, Geneva,
RF/Express, MLS and Streamserve.

Installs/test programs. This includes the setup and maintenance
of test environments. Documenting the issues and fixes and
coordinating the signoff from the effected department. Includes
working closely with users to properly define/report/resolve bug
issues with any of the above mentioned software.

Perform upgrades to existing UNIX/Progress based systems. This
includes firmware upgrades to the application server as well as
OS updates. Also required is the understanding of running in
mixed modes of Progress in support of the upgrade process.

Maintains and updates all technical specifications for the
UNIX/Progress based systems. This includes work instructions,
technical layouts, and process flow. Training of users on the
above systems/applications when required.

Some Progress programming and UNIX script writing is required.

Responsible for the daily administration of the application
server, UNIX and Progress environments. This includes the
setup/maintenance of users, the proper setting of security and
directory structures, utilization of resources and the cleanup
of temporary files.

Work closely with the Information Systems Manager to develop,
document, and test a formal disaster recovery plan as it pertains
to the application server, and UNIX system covering all the above
mentioned Progress based systems.

Experience Required: Three or more years experience on administration of
UNIX and Progress databases. Working knowledge of IBM RS6000 systems and
IBM AIX is a plus. 4-year college degree in Computer Sciences or related
field is preferred but not required.

Travel: Occasional extended or overnight travel to manufacturing plants
or customer sites. Some local travel is required.

Confidentiality: Employee has access to confidential production, payroll
and personnel information as well as access to corporate financial data.

Compensation/Benefits: A competitive compensation package of base salary
(65-75K) and bonus is offered along with a comprehensive healthcare and
