Basically Shipper Workbench gives you the ability to containerize product being shipped, where SO Shipper Maintenance Only ship's the lines on the Sales Order. The whole pre-shipper/shipper aspect of shipper workbench is outlined in the manual (different strokes for different folks). You'll need to examine your needs and decide what will work best for your company.

In a nutshell, if you're being required by your trading partners to do container level label serialization or container level ASN reporting Shipper workbench is the way to go, since you can build and maintain a parent/child relationship of items->container->pallet. And report on your ASN's and labels exactly what's going on the truck, SO Shipper maintenance falls short on this in my opinion and I never recommend it to my clients that have to do barcoding or EDI.
