Progress 9.1E connect through Progress 9.1C Client

Hi,
We had a Progress 9.1E database in Linux (CentOS 5.2). When i connect though 9.1C Client, I got the error message of "Network Daemon Error". After some workarounds i manage to fix that by change the host name and restart the DB. Now i got the error "Database not started". When i search for this, i got some solutions of JRE update. But that all in vain. As of now, i was stuck with this error of "Database not started". Waiting for some of the solutions/suggestions.

Are you trying to make an SQL connection to that database? If so what has the 9.1C client to do with it?
How do you connect?

I am trying to connect through JDBC from a java program. It fails and then for testing purpose i Installed the client and that too fails (This client is also a java program, the same JDBC error i got)

What driver are you using?

MERANT 3.60 32-BIT Progress SQL92 v9.1C. Now i want the config deatils which has to be done in that LINUX BOX.

You should use the 9.1E driver which is datadirect 4.10 9.1E SQL92 driver if I'm right.

"database not started" probably has to do with the way the database is configured. Do you have a secondary login broker for your sql connections? (KB: P7843 http://progress.atgnow.com/esprogress/Group.jsp?bgroup=progress&id=P7843)

But we had another server box which is UNIX and we are able to connect successfully with that box using this same driver. Did you think that UNIX configuration will be different from LINUX one?
