General Ledger Transaction Numbers

Recently, the transaction numbers in our general ledger jumped from 1743633 to 900000000. Does anyone know why this might have occured? Is the last transaction number stored in the database somewhere or does SYMIX just add 1 to the last record in the ledger trans-num field? We were unloading and loading multiple ledgers from multiple db's into one ledger for consolidation reasons, but now we're getting errors because the transaction numbers in our main db overlap those in the other db's.
