Configuring VMware vm client for Progress app

We're in the process of migrating a Progress installation, 10.1B, from AIX 5.3 to RHEL 5.10 on VMware Vsphere 5.1.

Any suggestions and experieences to share on how to configure the vm especially when it comes to disks. I'm debating on whether to use LVM or just straight virtual disks. And if we use lvm, just go with one virtual disk or say 3: OS, data, AI. For Lvm I'm leaning to the latter.

Does anyone just do straight virtual disks - say one per file system, or partiotion OS, data and AI drives. And manage with parted or something?

(The disks live on a hybrid Equalogic SAN and we are doing two-stage migration/upgrade where the final desination is Progress 11.3.)

There are more experienced folk here to answer your overall question, but on the matter of AI and data - separate them as much as you can - definately not one virtual disk - if that failed you've lost your DB and your recovery method.
