::: Configuring DataDirect 5.1 Progress ODBC Driver to Connect to OpenEdge 10.0B

Hello -

I'm attempting to use the DataDirect 5.1 Progress OpenEdge
ODBC Driver, under Windows XP Professional, to connect to
a remote OpenEdge 10.0B database on a LINUX server.

When attempting to do so, I receive the following error:
[DataDirect][ODBC OPENEDGE driver][OPENEDGE]Server did not respond.

Here is how I've configured the DataDirect 5.1 Progress OpenEdge
ODBC Driver:

Hostname - domainname.com
Port number - 20931
Database name - dbname.db
Userid - user
Password - pass

Any help would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks for your assistance.

My experience is with the Merant ver. 3.60 SQL-92 driver on a Windows XP client against a Progress 9.1D DB on RedHat AS 2.1 Linux server. That said, it has been quite reliable, but I use the specific IP address rather than server name when testing.

Also, you're sure you haven't firewalled the port(s) you're attempting to use? If you're WAN'ing, you may have routing table deny's defined in the system.

::: re. Configuring DataDirect 5.1 Progress ODBC Driver to Connect to OpenEdge 10.0B

Using the IP of the LINUX server, where the OpenEdge 10 RDBMS
instance is running, does not work.

Also, I'm not sure about the IP address - the one specified is the
one where the application server is running.

However, if I use another IP address, the ODBC driver comes back
with an error indicating there is an error in the network daemon.

How can I tell which port the OpenEdge 10 RDBMS database daemon
is running on? That may be the problem.

I haven't firewalled any ports explicitly myself, since this was a dedicated server setup by our hosting company. Is there a command
I can run at the LINUX prompt to insure the correct port is not firewalled?

Your assistance is appreciated.
