Alternate BOM's

Hi All,

Our production planner has asked an interesting question.

We have recently installed a new production line (we make fruit juice) as an expansion to an existing line. The new line utilises some new technologies which means that it uses slightly different packaging materials than the existing line.

So the question is can MFG run alternate BOM's at the same time? i.e. The 2 lines need to produce an article with the same parent item but utilising different components.

You can have as many BOMs in the system as you wish. The main one (used most often) will be defined in Item Planning maintenance and used for costng and planning purposes. When the work order is created, the system will take the default from there (Item master). Before releasing the WO, the operator can change the WO bom code to any other existing BOM. When the wo is released, the system will use this BOM code to build wo details. After the wo is released, the operator can change the actual WO bom by going to WO BOM maintenance.
