Item maintenance - non-stocked to stocked

My co-worker would like to know:

"If you have an already existing part (e.g.. BS4797) and you change that from non-stocked to stocked, do you have to go into each BOM that part is in and change it, or just changing the individual part in item maintenance is sufficient?"

Any help is appreciated.
Thank you, in advance.

Hi,
You can change this flag in Item Maintenance, Since
this flag helps the Inventory system determine what the Reference field default should be for this item.

When you enter a stocked item on a Customer Order Line, Job Material record, or bill of material, the system sets the Reference field to I (for Inventory). Otherwise, the item source code determines what the Reference field displays.

These references are used when cross referencing from:

a customer order to a purchase order

a customer order to a job

a job material to a purchase order

a job to a sub-job.

If the Reference is I, and you do not have enough of the item in stock, a source code set to M notifies you to create a job to satisfy the requirements.
