_connect-device is null when novell's users have more than 12 characters

In my company the workstations are Windows 98 and the server is Novell 9.1, with progress 9.1C.
When I create a user in Novell with more than 12 characters ("testing_testing", for example), the connection is created in "_connect" table by progress with the field "_connect._connect-device" equals "?".
Why progress can't set the "_connect._connect-device" field when I logged with an user with more than 12 characters?
Do someone know why this happen?
