Progress DataDirect was in Chicago for the AWS Summit and it was an exciting opportunity to meet several enterprise architects and product teams at cloud companies exploring how AWS fits into their cloud strategies.

The common theme we heard from attendees is that AWS is great in a cloud-native world, but the reality is that there are many core operations that will continue to run outside AWS. This makes connectivity and analytics critical to successful adoption of the cloud.

Common Challenges We Heard with Cloud Adoption

  1. AWS keeps pinging us to migrate all of our on-premises systems and workloads into the cloud, but it’s not as simple for our organization as we have critical systems we need to operate in parallel with AWS technologies.
  2. Data access for analytics becomes really complicated in the cloud across various shapes and sizes of data; SQL vs APIs, new network boundaries and increasing demand from analysts, data engineers and data scientists.

1. Accelerate hybrid AWS deployments without VPN or SSH

Translation for Cloud ISVs: SaaS applications, as well as other types of cloud applications, can struggle with back office integration because VPNs do not scale very well across end-customers. Our vendor agnostic on-premise data gateway accesses data over standard SQL or REST, and does not require VPN or other firewall configurations. This includes flexible deployment options for the most risk averse organizations. Learn more.

Translation for Enterprises: VPN is a secure and centrally managed option, but enterprise architects focused on analytics and supporting various lines of business prefer flexible, and secure, strategies for cloud based analytics and data management projects that access on-premise systems. Learn more.

2. Increase ROI from AWS with frictionless access to your data

Translation for Cloud ISVs: Cloud companies are recognizing the increasing strategic value of their application data to power customer analytics. They’re capitalizing on the opportunity by exposing Data APIs that establish new revenue channels, reduce churn and differentiate from competitors. Learn more.

Translation for Enterprises: There is a mismatch between on-premise and cloud infrastructure when it comes to data access. The Cloud expects web friendly protocols to access data, whereas on-premise infrastructure often expects data access over TCP/IP. Enterprise architects are turning to Progress DataDirect Hybrid Connectivity Solutions to build enterprise data access around the standards (REST/OData over HTTPS, SQL/JDBC over HTTPS, SQL/ODBC over HTTPS) that work best for their entire organization across cloud and on-premise, rather than a specific project or site.
