We will deploy DataServer for Oracle for the company where I Work and I'll be responsible for this project.
I'm thinking of two work fronts with their scripts:
- DBA and infrastructure area:
* install the homologation environment
* data migration from Progress to Oracle
- Development
* Adapt programs (according to Progress we'll have to adapt our programs)
* Unit tests
* Performace tests
An overview about our environment:
- Progress 10.2b running on Red Hat
- Character Progress (more than 5 thousand programs ".p")
- Database has more than one thousand tables, 700 Gigabytes and a couple of billions of the rows
Could someone share your experiencies in a process like this? I would like receive tips as project management as technical part, such as duration, performance, best
practices, etc. Thus, mitigate potential problems known. Reading some foruns, some people had problems with field length, locale, size of database (Is it true that the base up to 3 times bigger than in the original?), among others.
