slow transactions lead to record locks

Won't argue with others choice, but I love using only fixed extents, and variable to handle overflow (which would always mean a problem, since I track area HWMs) Part of my love of fixed extents is my OC nature. I want to see 131072000 Nov 22 04:47 dstest_13.d1 - fix 131072000 Nov 22 04:47...

    Keyword Forget List

Well, with Progress sometimes it is hard to gauge what features have become effectively "obsolete" (which anyone using Progress through a major version upgrade definitely knows); so yeah, I took the "ask before I proceed approach". I don't have the 20 years experience with Progress, started...

    Keyword Forget List

Hadn't looked at the full fix list for 10.1C, and realized there were a few new items that I would like (but really, 10.1B provides the biggest leap for me). I agree with 10.2 being too new, but nothing is too new to try; having three system tiered approach to promoting upgrades/enhancements...

    ps:escript issue on Progress 9.1C

Sounds like a version issue. 9.1D added many new features relating to widgets, invoke, and function call types. Especially if you are talking about dynamic invoke methods.

    Keyword Forget List

The largest hurdle I think I will encounter with any version of Progress, is getting my ERP vendor (infor) to give us the new version (will have to see). I am a DBA, 10.1B is what I want :) Either way, I would probably want to take a step-by-step approach. Move up one release at a time.

slow transactions lead to record locks

ProTop is definately the best product available for free. However, you may need some assistance from the GURU himself to get it to work if you are new to Progress. I recommend reading some of the documentation about Progress and After/Before imaging. Unless you can answer the questions...

    Keyword Forget List

Setting up keyword forget list: Being a DBA, I really want to get 10.1B installed (have 10.0B05, ugh). I want the DBA functions in 10.1B for my benefit, but don't necessarily understand the full ramifications of installing the newer version of Progress and utilizing this keywork forget list...

    Automaticall email tabanalys

mailx -s "TAB Report" <email or sendmail alias> < tab.txt ex. mailx -s "TAB Report" dba@company.com < tab.txt ex w/alias. mailx -s "TAB Report" dba < tab.txt Also works. I am not a huge fan of using cat within my mailx commands. May be a personal preference. However, it could save a byte...

    Compiere

Completely agree with tamhas. Also, there are fundamental differences in how databases are maintained within Oracle and SQL especially with "?" or unknown values and sequences. ERP requirements should begin with: - What you have/don't have now - What your users like/dislike about the current...

loading df file in progress using cmd prompt(load_df.p)

I agree, I think that the space would be the issue. I would stick with "Progra~1" However, if you have the proenv and %DLC% variable set, I don't see the need for the full path to mpro. Also, aren't you attempting to run this as a batch? If you are running in a batch mode passing...

    AI and BI files

AI is optional (mandatory to keep a job), but is also one of those things that need to be configured and tested heavily; especially pre-10.1B (whenever AIARCHIVER was added). 10.1B makes a DBA's life much easier (especially since the AI notes can be verified after they are created, and not...

Unable to connect to Admin Server. Insure Admin Server is running(8336).

To clarify One System?: Version of Windows? What 9.1E SP? Have you run the admnsrvc /install within the proenv?

    Confusion on Building Shema X-Ref

Is there a way to build an incremental .df file (or RTB task), that will build a list of differences between what RTB believes the schema should be and what is in place. Prior to my arrival, there were manual changes done to our development environment database. Because the update schema...

Closed Work Order is displayed in MRP Detail Inquiry

A little backround is needed. If this is a single work order that consistently gets regenerated, is this the only one? Kishor is correct, it shouldn't be possible, and I would have run the regen. I am sure that something can be evaluated if more information is provided. What I think I know...

What OS are you working with on the Linux side? Have you recently upgraded Progress recently?

Find table/record based on transaction id

I am not overly familiar with Protop (sorry Tom, use Promonitor). However, what stuck out to me was Area Full: 16 100.00% After Image: 1 / 17 a1 Blocked: 0 Am I wrong in assuming that Area 16 is for AI, and is 100% full? If so, could this be an issue with the AI archiving? Wouldn't the...

    prodel utility

Do you possibly have multiple versions of Progress loaded, and the DLC is pointing to another Progress version. I have encountered issues with prodel, different error, but still had problems (related to _dbutil) though.

    AS Temp Files growing large

I apologize, I should not have quoted my previous statement about dynamic temp tables. I was just trying to give different options to investigate. - Infinite Loops - or - Dynamic Temp Table/Memory Leaks My post should have been more clear.

How to load .df without starting the DB

If you are restoring the database from a backup prostrct create the empty database with the -blocksize parameter, and then use prorest (assuming you using Progress backup utilities).

    AS Temp Files growing large

Here where I work we encountered an issue with superceding products. Product A -> Product B -> Product A ; the programmers never accounted for our sales staff incorrectly entering superceding products. ---- Since Progress doesn't check for infinite loops, I would check out (in Promon -> 5)...
